Trevor Carrick got a pair of lengthy plane rides and seven minutes of ice time, but that was the extent of his first callup of the season as the Carolina Hurricanes returned the defenseman to the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday.
Carrick’s reassignment likely indicates that Trevor van Riemsdyk, who was sent to injured reserve on Saturday when Carrick was called up, will be ready to go tomorrow when the Canes face the Calgary Flames. Van Riemsdyk suffered a concussion in the Canes’ opener against the Wild and has yet to return to the lineup.
