Most Carolina Hurricanes fans were disappointed by a slow free agency day, it is important to see why the slow day was actually good news for the team. The highly touted players like Backes, Nielsen, and Lucic are now signed through their late 30’s making at least $6 million per year. These contracts are going to come back to do more harm than good in three years to their teams.
Carolina took a more conservative route by signing forwards Lee Stempniak and Viktor Stalberg. Though those names don’t jump off the page, there is little to lose.
