There was a huge shake up for the Carolina Hurricanes on March 7, in the front office. Majority owner Tom Dundon decided it was time to relieve Canes general manager Ron Francis from his duties, and move him to be the vice president of hockey operations with the organization.
Francis goes back to where he became a mainstay in Carolina’s organization, namely in scouting. He’ll be valued on that side, but he was not able to take the risks required to be a successful general manager in the league now. He was possibly the least active GM on the trade market in the NHL over the past few years.
