Defeating the Nashville Predators in a shootout was a huge step forward for the Carolina Hurricanes. The win came when the Canes had lost two straight, to the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs, and could not let that stretch to a three game skid. Carolina ended up seeing the victory through to complete the four game home stretch at PNC Arena.
However, if not for Scott Darling stopping two Preds in the shootout, the game might have gone a different way. Darling also came up big on another occasion, on the opening night win for the Canes over the Minnesota Wild.
