The Hurricanes have made, what appears to be at this very moment, a pretty lopsided trade. Defenseman Calvin de Haan and forward Aleksi Saarela have been traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for goalie Anton Forsberg and defenseman Gustav Forsling.
Pierre LeBrun quickly noted that this was a cap space move for the Hurricanes, who gained over $4.5 million in cap space by trading de Haan. The Hurricanes had about $20 million in cap space prior to the deal.
Perhaps another move is on the horizon, and this was simply setting the stage for the Canes to make a splash in free agency or another trade.
