Carolina Hurricanes: Bill Peters did the organization a favor by opting out

Things looked to be moving in the right direction in the relationship between Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon and former head coach Bill Peters. However, the relationship might have broken down once the Canes were officially eliminated from playoff contention, with what the fan base knew was an off-season full of change ahead.

On April 20, Peters officially resigned as the Canes head coach, with his sights seemingly set on the job opening with the Calgary Flames. That job with the Flames opened up when they fired their former head coach in Glen Gulutzan, following a similar result in their standing placement to that of the Canes.
