To be a playoff team, and the Carolina Hurricanes would like to think they can be this season, you have to be able to win the close ones at home.

On the road, too. But certainly at home.

The Canes found themselves in a tight one Friday against the St. Louis Blues at PNC Arena, but the Blues came away with a 2-1 win.

St. Louis (8-2-1) took the 2-1 lead on Brayden Schenn’s goal midway through the third period, not long after the Blues had easily killed off the first penalty of the game. After Canes goalie Cam Ward stopped a Vladimir Tarasenko shot, the Canes’ Marcus Kruger fell as he attempted to clear the puck and Schenn had an open shot.
