Over the past few seasons, the Carolina Hurricanes were always expected to make the playoffs but a lack of scoring and poor goaltending would doom them at the worst possible time. This season looked much the same until a 36-game stretch in the middle of the season saw Carolina average 3.5 goals per game. Then, Petr Mrazek heated up as well. Mrazek went 13-4 with 1.83 goals against average and a .938 save percentage after the All-Star Break. That was more than enough to clinch Carolina's first trip to the postseason in a decade.
