DETROIT - Pavel Datsyuk was nominated for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy on Tuesday, but he still didn’t have a problem sticking it to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The cerebral Detroit Red Wings scored the opening goal and helped keep Steven Stamkos in check as the Wings beat the Lightning 3-0 inside a boisterous Joe Louis Arena to take a one-game lead in the best-of-seven first-round series.
Datsyuk, a four-time winner of the Lady Byng, also scored in the Wings’ series-opening victory. Detroit leads the series 2-1 and would put the Lightning on the brink of elimination with a win at the Joe on Thursday night.
