Weak dollar may keep Quebec City out of NHL expansion picture

Take a tour through the magnificent new Videotron Centre in Quebec City, with its expansive concourses and swank private suites, and it’s easy to envision how this state-of-the-art sheet of dreams would be the perfect home for a National Hockey League franchise.

In terms of the sport’s tradition and interest, Quebec’s capital city is second to none. Hall of Famers Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur and Michel Goulet were junior hockey standouts there. Patrick Roy cut his coaching teeth there. Stars such as Goulet, Peter Stastny and, early in his career, a young Mats Sundin, made the NHL’s Nordiques a force there.
