Strome steps up to help lead Canada over Sweden

MONTREAL — Dylan Strome didn’t want to be the hero, but the Team Canada captain just couldn’t help himself.

A day after saying he was hoping for a run-of-the-mill victory against Sweden — “We’re going to try to make it a game where we feel comfortable,” he said — Strome was forced to come up big and assume his role as the offensive leader.

With Canada nursing a 3-2 lead in the third period, Strome scored his third power-play goal of the world junior championship when his wrist shot dribbled underneath goalie Felix Sandstrom’s pads. It was Strome’s first goal since the tournament opener against Russia and ended what had been a four-game scoring drought.
