No Senators fan should be surprised that Scott Gomez has officially retired.
As Hail Mary gambles go, the Senators’ decision to sign Gomez late last season was a disaster. His legs were gone before he arrived. Ultimately, the plan for Gomez to plug the hole left by the ankle injury to Kyle Turris ended up being just another example of a Senators season that went down the drain.
It’s a tad sad that the 756th and final point of his 16-year career — he had one measly assist in 13 games — came with the Senators.
He shouldn’t be remembered for that.
