The Northern Capitals scored four second-period goals en route to a 5-1 win over the Rocky Mountain Raiders to win the girls Mac’s AAA Midget Hockey Tournament championship trophy at the Saddledome on Sunday afternoon.
Madness and screams of jubilation erupted after the final horn as sticks, gloves and helmets flew in every direction.
The entire team made a bee-line for goalie Kelsey Roberts and mobbed her as the team hug collapsed to the ice under its own weight.
“I don’t know how to describe it — it doesn’t even seem real,” Capitals captain Sage Desjardins said after the game.
