NHL teams now requiring enforcers to actually be able to play

TORONTO - When Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi talks about rookie forward Andy Andreoff, he uses buzzwords such as “hard-nosed” and “big-time character” and says the 24-year-old “gives us a lot of juice and a lot of identity.”

“One of the reasons why he’s here,” added Lombardi, “is because he’s tough.”

In other words, Andreoff fights. A lot.

According to hockeyfights.com, Andreoff has dropped his gloves a league-high five times in 14 games. As long as he does not break one of his fists, he is on pace to finish the season with 29 fights — the most since Zenon Konopka fought 33 times in 2009-10.
