Given the five-day flurry of wheeling and dealing leading into the official opening of free agency, July 1 seems to have lost some of its lustre this year.
With a watered-down cache of UFAs here in 2015, the weak market likely will be overshadowed Wednesday by the potential of more big deals, continuing a trading trend that saw Brandon Saad, Kevin Bieksa and Martin Jones all change teams Tuesday.
But as mediocre as this summer’s free agent group appears to be, at least on the surface, the Class of 2016 stands to be the best in years.
