NHL History: Calgary Flames acquire Mike Vernon for second stint with team

It was today in 2000 that the Calgary Flames acquired Mike Vernon for his second stint in the city.

Vernon, then 37, was acquired from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the rights to center Dan Cavanaugh and Calgary’s 8th round pick 2001.

And let’s just say his second stint was far different from his first. Drafted in the third round of the 1981 draft, the Calgary native joined the club full-time in 1985-86 and stuck around until a 1994 trade that sent him to Detroit.

Those first nine years in the organization saw him play 468 games winning 248 while posting a .
