Markstrom makes 19 saves against Detroit for league-leading ninth shutout of 2021–22

Jacob Markstrom has completely shut down the Detroit Red Wings this season.

The 31-year-old goaltender picked up his ninth shutout of 2021–22 in Saturday’s game against the Red Wings, stopping all 19 shots he faced (including 14 in the third period) to help the Calgary Flames win 3–0.

Markstrom previously recorded a 33-save shutout at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit back on Oct. 21, 2021. That clean sheet was Markstrom’s first of the season; at this point, he’s more than doubled his career total with nine shutouts on the year.

Prior to the 2021–22 season, Markstrom had managed just eight shutouts in his entire career with the Flames, Vancouver Canucks, and Florida Panthers.
