Mark Giordano's NHL PLayers Foundation Award nomination a result of work outside Calgary Flames

On one winter morning, this story had staffers at the Saddledome in stitches.

The previous day, Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano had been playing floor hockey with the youngsters at Radisson Park elementary, one of his several in-season school visits as part of the Team Giordano charity initiative that he spearheads with his wife, Lauren.

The star defenceman apparently hadn’t provided enough offensive pop on the gymnasium floor, because

“Yeah, that was sort of a shot at my ego,” Giordano recalled with a chuckle, obliging a request to re-tell the story. “I was there, we played a nice ball hockey game, and then one of the kids stood up and asked if I could bring (Sean) Monahan next time.
