Kris Versteeg took a hometown discount on Thursday, re-upping with the Calgary Flames for one more season according to a report on Twitter from TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Just days before Saturday’s National Hockey League free agent frenzy, the two sides have apparently hammered out a one-year contract worth $1.75-million.

The 31-year-old Lethbridge native joined the Flames last season, right before the puck dropped and after spending training camp with the Edmonton Oilers. It was an interesting turn of events, especially because originally Versteeg had planned to play with SC Bern of the Swiss elite league for the 2016-17 season.
