In the game of hockey, at least on the managerial side, it typically refers to a team cutting some combination of prospects, picks, up-and-coming and/or already-there talent to land the proverbial “big fish”. That one player that puts an already achieving team even further over the top, that will cement a glorious legacy of hoisting silver.
