Ken Bracko, pillar of Calgary sports community, dies but leaves a legacy

Generations of minor hockey players in Calgary will be saddened to hear of the death of Ken Bracko.

Bracko, who helped found the Mac’s Midget AAA Tournament and served as president of the Calgary Jr. A Canucks for more than 20 years, died Tuesday evening at the age of 74.

“I lost a friend but I also lost somebody I had so much respect for,” said former Calgary Canucks coach Don Phelps.

“I coached for 26 years there with him as the president and I think the reason we were successful ... is because he said to me, ‘You coach the players, you do what’s best for them and I’ll find the money’.
