The Flames didn’t secure an opening night win (shocker), but Jacob Markstrom provided the HOTN from this contest. It probably won’t go down as one of his best starts ever, but it’s ok to temper expectations as he’s on a new team with a new defence core in front of him. He played fairly well for most of the contest, surrendering four goals on 34 total shots. And before you all have a nuclear meltdown, last year’s Vezina Trophy winner (Connor Hellebuyck) wasn’t exactly all worldly Thursday night at the other end of the rink either.
With all that out of the way, Markstrom helped the Flames get to overtime with a spectacular save when he had no stick.
