The Calgary Flames will be selecting 26th overall at this year’s NHL entry draft in Vancouver. Earlier this week we previewed five potential selections with that pick. Now it’s time to analyze the other options for what to do with that pick.
A) Trade Down
Calgary will once again be entering the draft holding only a few picks. The Flames currently hold their first, their third, the Islanders fourth, their fifth, and the Hurricanes seventh. There is little differential value between late first round picks and second round picks, so perhaps Calgary could find a team wanting to move back into the first round, and pick up a 2nd plus a mid-late round pick in return.
