With their third selection of the draft, the Calgary Flames selected defenceman Jeremie Poirier from the Saint Johns Sea Dogs with the 72nd pick in the third round of the 2020 draft.
Poirier (no relation to Emile) could be the steal of the draft. Ranked number 18 on the NHL’s North American skaters list, Poirier emerged as one of the best offensive d-men in the draft, and was projected as a late first round/early second round pick. He had 20 goals and 53 points in his second QMJHL season in 2019-20 (64 games), and has started 2020-21 red hot with a goal and 4 points through 2 games.
