Flames go for a skate in Central Park

NEW YORK - It was something out of a movie.

Or maybe just a scene from your average Saturday at Calgary’s Don Bosco outdoor rink in Deer Ridge, Silver Springs in the Northwest, Shaganappi Community Association — heck, take your pick from any of the city’s fine ODRs.

A pile of hockey players in toques and eye-blacks. Hootin’ and hollerin.’ Tapping their sticks on the ice. And playing one of the greatest games in the world in its purest form.

The Calgary Flames threw it back to their minor hockey days and decided to take their New York City practice outdoors under the beaming sun and crisp air of the Lasker Rink situated in the idyllic Central Park’s north end.
