Elite Canadian prospects not in abundance this year

According to some, the top Canadian born-and-raised prospect heading into this summer's draft likely will be Michael McLeod.

The 6-foot-1 Mississauga Steelheads centre, who has 19 goals and 56 points in 48 games the OHL, has been compared to Vancouver Canucks forward Bo Horvat. Scouts describe him as “a catalyst” and praise him for his overall two-way game.

“I love him,” said Mark Seidel, chief scout for North American Central Scouting. “He skates unbelievably and he works and he’s brave. He just lacks a little offensive finish.”

That being said, the Mississauga, Ont., native will not be selected first overall.
