Calgary Flames Sign Michael Stone

The Flames announced today that they have signed free agent defenceman Michael Stone to a one year, two-way deal worth $700,000. Stone, a nine year NHL veteran, will be in his 5th campaign with Calgary. He’s played in 148 games with the Flames since arriving during the 2016-17 season.

This signing is clearly a depth move as Stone isn’t someone the Flames can or will utilize as an everyday defenceman. In his time with Calgary, Stone has been a bottom defence pairing player and will most likely end up in Stockton, rather than in Calgary. He will be battling for call up minutes with Oliver Kylington as Juuso Valimaki and Nikita Nesterov are currently anchoring that final blue line pairing.
