Many of the contending teams don’t have a lot of salary cap space leading up the NHL trade deadline. There are a few teams that would like to add that do have some cap space though.

As NHL clubs approach the February 24 trade deadline, general managers of contending teams have little flexibility under the league's salary cap and will have to implement a creative strategy to enable them to make additions to improve their chances at advancing in the playoffs. An example of what may be coming were the deals made last week involving the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, and Calgary Flames.
