The St. Louis Blues placed forward Patrik Berglund on long-term injured reserve Wednesday ahead of the start of the regular season and signed forward Scott Gomez.
Berglund's status will be re-evaluated in four months, the team said. He underwent surgery on his right shoulder on Aug. 25.
The 27-year-old Berglund had 12 goals and 15 assists in 77 regular-season games and two goals and two assists in six 2015 postseason games last season for the Blues.
A native of Sweden, Berglund was drafted in the first round by St. Louis in 2006. In seven years with the team, he has 118 goals, 129 assists and 164 penalty minutes in 513 career regular-season games and has added six goals, seven assists and 10 penalty minutes in 29 postseason games.
