The first half was a collective effort for Cal as they took a 12-point lead going into the half. They started the game on a 14-0 run, as Santa Clara struggled all half to find rhythm. Cal did not shoot well, but Juhwan Harris-Dyson brought a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points and 3 steals in 11 minutes. Andre Kelley also made an impact under the basket, also scoring 8 points. Defensively, the Bears were solid, forcing Santa Clara to make 14 turnovers. However, the Bears struggled to box out and keep Santa Clara from getting to the offensive rebounds.
