A Closer Look at Sonny Dykes' Firing

There have been several explanations thrown around as to why Cal decided to fire head football coach Sonny Dykes, but according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the biggest reason is financial.

Phil Matier and Andy Ross report that season ticket renewals are down more than 30 percent from this time last year. They estimate that could cost Cal $2 million.

Of course, the athletic department is already struggling financially, as is the entire University. Matier and Ross report that Cal’s annual sports deficit is about $21 million and the school’s overall deficit is at $110 million.
