Cal Football Recruiting Roundup: Ross Bowers, Lonny Powell & More

The Cal Bears continue to work on their 2015 recruiting class, and there could be some big news on the horizon as we inch closer to national signing day on February 4. Here's all the latest.

Ross Bowers

The three-star pro-style QB from Bothell, WA is all but official at this point. 247 Sports rates him as the #23 Pro-Style QB in his class, and we've talked to several scouts who think he'd be getting a lot more attention if he wasn't tucked away in the Pacific northwest. He'll need some time to develop behind Jared Goff & co, but Bowers could be a real diamond in the rough.

Lonny Powell

Powell carried the ball 11 times for 36 yards and had one catch for 11 yards in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. The two-way star for Sacramento High is a four-star prospect according to 247 Sports, and he's never wavered after committing to the Bears back in May of 2014.

Rob Likens Departure

Several players have responded to wide receivers coach Rob Likens leaving Cal for Kansas, but it doesn't sound like the news will have much of an effect on Cal's class. Several recruits including 3-star G Ryan Gibson and three-star WR Greyson Bankhead retweeted this from Bryce Treggs, which can only be a positive sign.

A Surprising, But Very Cool Stat

Three of the four running backs to start in today's NFL playoff games - Baltimore's Justin Forsett, New England's Shane Vereen, and Seattle's Marshawn Lynch - are Cal Football products. Not a bad look for the Golden Bears.
