Workers at Utah VA hospital under fire for treating a veteran patient in a dirty room ‘just didn’t see’ how dirty it was, chief of staff says

The chief of staff for health care at the Salt Lake City veterans hospital on Monday again apologized for the dirty room where a patient was treated.

Karen Gribbin, chief of staff for healthcare at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, said that staff members were focused on ending the wait-time for veteran Christopher Wilson when they showed him to the unkempt room on April 5.

Wilson left the Army after two tours in Iraq and sought medical care for his service-related injury at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He said he expected a cleaner environment than what he encountered at a VA clinic when he was shown to a room with an overflowing trash can, medical instruments strewn about on the counter and a filthy sink.
