Wildfire causing evacuations in Rose Canyon near Herriman

A fire that started Saturday afternoon in Rose Canyon has prompted the evacuation of nearby homes, according to Unified Fire Authority.

Fire crews responded to the fire about 3 p.m. Saturday near 8028 Step Mountain Road. On the scene, they saw visible flames and the potential for spreading and called for the evacuation of all residents living in the High Country-area and down slope of Shaggy Mountain Road.

Officials suspect lightning sparked the blaze. It has burned through about 3 acres of grass and juniper.
