Viewmont High School basketball standout Mercedes Staples has committed to the University of Minnesota, the shooting guard announced Wednesday on Twitter.
“I never thought I’d have to go through this process again, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family and AAU coach,” she posted on Twitter. “I am happy to announce my decision to attend University of Minnesota for the next four years!”
Staples will be coached by Minnesota Lynx point guard Lindsay Whalen, who the University of Minnesota hired as coach last month. Whalen will continue to play for the Lynx because the WNBA season runs opposite the college basketball season.
