Provo • Yoeli Childs wasn’t feeling or playing like his usual self Wednesday night, so TJ Haws continued the junior forward’s torrid scoring streak.
Haws scored a career-high 30 points and Childs, who was ill before the game and missed shootaround, added a season-low 13 as BYU blasted Portland State 85-66 at the Marriott Center. Childs had scored 31 points in each of his last three games.
Portland State made it a competitive game by dominating on the offensive glass. The Vikings had 28 offensive boards and turned those into 23 second-chance points.
BYU pushed a 45-32 halftime lead to 55-39 with 16 minutes remaining, but the Vikings put together a 9-0 run and took advantage of a four-minute BYU scoring drought to get within seven.
