The resolution that led Utah to ratify suffrage is on display at the Capitol

An original version of the resolution that led Utah to ratify the 19th Amendment 100 years ago, supporting suffrage for women nationwide, will be on display at the Utah State Capitol from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Four women legislators — Sen. Elizabeth Hayward, who sponsored the resolution, and Reps. Delora Blakely, Grace Stratton Airey and Anna Piercey, who presided over the House during the vote — led the efforts. Gov. Simon Bamberger signed the resolution on Oct. 3, 1919. (Utah women had regained voting rights with statehood in 1896, after previously voting from 1870 to 1887 in Utah Territory.
