State Amateur champion Preston Summerhays claimed two victories Thursday in the U.S. Junior Amateur golf tournament, winning No. 18 in each match at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Counting his six match-play wins in the State Am last week at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, the 16-year-old Summerhays will take a 9-0 record into Friday’s quarterfinals.
Playing as the No. 11 seed in the Junior Amateur, Summerhays took 1-up wins over Michael Brennan of Virginia in the round of 32 and Akshay Bhatia of North Carolina in the round of 16. Against Brennan, Summerhays lost Nos.
