‘Physical altercation’ reported at St. George school produces large police response

Students were injured Sunday night at a St. George school described as a psychiatric treatment center.

The extent of the injuries were still not disclosed Monday morning. In a Facebook post about 11 p.m. Sunday, St. George police said: “A couple students were injured and are being treated by medical.”

Television coverage showed at least one patient being loaded into an ambulance. The episode happened at Red Rock Canyon School, 747 E. St. George Blvd. The boulevard is a major thoroughfare in the city. Traffic was obstructed for much of Sunday night.

The school’s website describes itself as a “psychiatric residential treatment center" for people ages 12 to 18.
