Mother charged with child abuse for dragging her 7-year-old son by the neck and stabbing him with a pen

A West Jordan woman accused of dragging her 7-year-old son by the neck and stabbing him repeatedly with a pen has been charged with felony child abuse.

Whitney Virginia Romero, 28, also faces charges of assault on a police officer, failing to stop for police and interfering with a police officer, all misdemeanors related to the Nov. 10 incident.

According to West Jordan police, they received multiple calls of a woman dragging a boy down the sidewalk along 7800 South. The 7-year-old later told authorities his mother had been “acting scary” — and that she had taken a piece of her hair, lit it on fire, blew it out and placed it on his chest.
