Jenny Wilson elected as Salt Lake County’s new mayor

Draper • The Salt Lake County Democratic Party’s central committee members chose Salt Lake County Councilwoman Jenny Wilson to serve as county mayor at a special election held Saturday at Corner Canyon High School. She will take the oath of office Tuesday and serve in the seat through the end of the term, which is up for election in 2020.

Wilson ran for U.S. Senate last year, but lost the bid to Mitt Romney. In 2004, she became the first woman elected to the County Council and served for six years before successfully running again as an at-large member in 2014 — experience she emphasized during her comments to the central committee on Saturday.
