Here’s what you need to know about the major Utah snow storm that has led to canyon closures and hundreds of crashes

A massive snowstorm across Utah on Wednesday led to hundreds of car crashes, a crawling commute, some canyon closures, schools cancelling classes and the delayed opening of many state offices.

Some places in the Salt Lake City area saw more than a foot of snow overnight, while some mountain ski resorts received more than two feet of dense, heavy snow in the last day.

The heavy snow prompted Utah Department of Transportation crews to order Little Cottonwood Canyon closed for the day, due to avalanche danger.

“There are so many people who want to take advantage of the fresh powder,” Gleason said.
