Former BYU volleyball coach Tom Peterson hired to guide Southern Virginia program

Southern Virginia University announced Friday that it will field a men's volleyball program for the first time in 2017, and now the team has a head coach. He's a familiar one to people surrounding the BYU volleyball program.

Former BYU men's volleyball coach Tom Peterson has a new challenge ahead: spearheading a first-year NCAA collegiate program.

Southern Virginia University announced Monday that Peterson, who led the Cougars to the 2004 Division I national championship, will become the school's first men's volleyball coach. On Friday, the school announced it will field its first volleyball team in spring 2017, giving Southern Virginia 18 athletic programs playing at the Division III level.
