Former BYU outside hitter Taylor Sander makes U.S. Olympic volleyball roster

A former BYU volleyball star is headed to the Olympics.

Taylor Sander, who made his mark as part of the Cougar program from 2011-2014, was named to Team USA's 12-man roster on Tuesday that will compete for gold in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August.

Sander, who was a four-time All-American during his career in Provo, is one of eight newcomers to the roster.

The 6-foot-4 native of Huntington Beach, California, has been involved with Team USA since 2014, where he made an immediate impact, cracking the starting lineup.

That year, he was named USAV Men's Indoor Rookie of the Year and was also given the title of Best Server at the World Championship Qualifier as the U.
