Former BYU, Davis High runner Jared Ward earns spot on U.S. Olympic Team

LOS ANGELES — Former BYU and Davis High School runner Jared Ward took third in the U.S. Olympic marathon trials, good enough to take the final Olympic spot.

Galen Rupp dominated the field Saturday in hot conditions to raise the possibility of an unprecedented Olympic double.

"I think the double in Rio is certainly possible," said Rupp, who earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team by easily winning his marathon debut in steamy conditions in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 10 seconds.

"The first step was obviously to qualify for this. I didn't want to get ahead of myself.
