LANDOVER, Md. — Travis Tuiloma, considered the best defensive player on BYU’s team, made his first appearance of the season in BYU’s 35-32 loss to West Virginia at FedEx Field.

Tuiloma suffered a Lisfranc foot injury in BYU’s bowl game in Las Vegas last December and underwent surgery and came onto the field in the first half Saturday.

The decision to have him take to the field, albeit almost a cameo, was well-planned by Tuiloma, the training staff and the head coach.

“It’s always been on Travis,” said head coach Kalani Sitake of the decision to play the big senior tackle.
