Dick Harmon: BYU's 2-sport star Corbin Kaufusi happy to be bruising opponents again

PROVO — Corbin Kaufusi is back to creating lean muscle football fiber instead of trimming down for basketball finesse work.

No more tiptoeing around the tulips. He can play road-grader again.

The 6-foot-10, 280-pound junior defensive end joined BYU’s football team late in offseason training after a few months playing on the basketball team as a burly post player. Playing behind leading scorer Eric Mika this past hoop season is in his rearview mirror. Today he is dedicated to knocking other bodies around without getting whistled for a foul.

That will be fun again.

A rush end’s primary mission is to take down quarterbacks and contain the edge.
