Colorado City man drowns in Lake Powell

A Colorado City, Ariz., man drowned this weekend in Lake Powell, after he became tangled in some wires and cables underwater.

A 911 caller on Sunday night reported that Jacob Jessop, 31, had jumped into the water near a boat slip in the Wahweap Marina and did not resurface, according to a news statement Monday by Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and the Coconino County, Ariz., sheriff’s office.

Rangers found Jessop 20 to 30 feet underwater, tangled in wires and cables that connect to the boat slips, said Jon Paxton, sheriff's spokesman. Divers could not recover his body until Monday morning, according to the news statement; at that time, Jessop's body was 249 feet underwater.
