The Coal Hollow Fire has grown rapidly in the near-perfect fire conditions in southeastern Utah County, nearly tripling in size over the course the day Wednesday, and then more than doubling that by Thursday morning.

Officials believe the fire, burning in a rural area about 11 miles northeast of Price, has covered about 17,200 acres, according to information from the U.S. Forest Service.

A lightning strike sparked the fire Saturday, and it had been growing steadily but slowly until Wednesday, when it nearly tripled in size from around 2,300 acres to an estimated 6,600. It hasn’t slowed since.
