BYU opens WCC play with 69-45 victory over Portland

Provo • Yoeli Childs and Elijah Bryant posted double-doubles and BYU pushed its winning streak to nine with a 69-45 victory over Portland in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night at the Marriott Center.

A sophomore, Childs had a career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds and Bryant added 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as BYU improved to 12-2. Portland dropped to 6-8 and still has not defeated BYU in Provo.

BYU shot 52 percent from the field to take a 31-24 lead in the first half, but Portland got hot to start the second half and closed the deficit to 36-35 on a 3-pointer by Walker.
